"When I moved to Brightlingsea in November 2003, this was the only broadband provider in the town; BT were still playing around with petitions and alike. I needed broadband as I was to work from home most of the time; so I signed up with Brightlingsea Wireless and have been very happy with the service from day one. The simple fact that there is one person in charge of the network, customer service, billing etc is Brightlingsea Wireless' greatest strength. Jamie responds very quickly to any queries you may have, problems (in the rare instants there is one) are investigated and resolved and are not passed around between different departments with no solution forthcoming. I would wholeheartedly recommend Brightlingsea Wireless to any one looking for a ISP in the town."

"Brightlingsea Wireless wins-out over a conventional wired Broadband service in many ways. Apart from the obvious advantages of not being restricted to one room (or house, or street...) by wires it is hugely helpful and reassuring to have a real live local support person on hand. No call centre, no premium-rate telephone numbers leaving you in a queue of 'valuable' customers due to 'unprecedented demand' - just a very helpful chap round the corner who knows how it all works and what to do in the unlikely event that it doesn't."

"Brightlingsea Wireless has changed my opinion of technology.
Prior to using Brightlingsea Wireless, I was constantly experiencing problems on internet connectivity and working from home via vpn these problems were frustrating and time-consuming.
After contacting Brightlingsea Wireless, they not only responded immediately, but within a short time I had instant *speedy *access. What sets them apart from the "competition" is the personal responsiveness, turnaround time, and ability to explain what they had done without the confusing tech talk. It's the best decision I've made ! I can thoroughly recommend them."

UPDATE
GRANT APPROVAL FOR HARBOUR BROADBAND
Brightlingsea Harbour Commissioners have approved a grant to Brightlingsea Wireless to extend the availability of wireless broadband in Brightlingsea Harbour. The grant will be used to accelerate the rollout of 'wireless mesh nodes' - special kinds of wifi access points which require no wired connection to the Internet - specifically to improve wireless broadband access for yachts and other vessels mooring at what is known locally as the 'Fishermens' pontoon opposite the new Waterside Marina development.
For further information contact Jamie Clary at Brightlingsea Wireless.
'BROADBAND LITE' NEW £9 PER MONTH PACKAGE FILLS GAP BETWEEN DIALUP AND BROADBAND
Brightlingsea Wireless has introduced Broadband Lite: a new £9 per month subscription plan which provides the 'always-on' convenience of broadband at the speed of a fast dialup modem. With a price comparable to many modem-based dialup Internet packages, Broadband Lite is aimed at users who do not need the full-speed or expense of broadband but who wish to stay permanently online while keeping their telephone lines free for calls while using the Internet. Users of Broadband Lite are able to temporarily 'top-up' their connection to full-speed Broadband premium at any time via Pay-As-You-Go or switch their subscription permanently to Broadband Premium simply by mailing or calling Brightlingsea Wireless.

SEAMLESS ROAMING: BROADBAND 'ALL OVER THE PLACE'
One of the features of Brightlingsea Wireless which is easy to overlook, is the fact that an account with us allows you to 'roam' and use broadband with your laptop anywhere we provide coverage. An increasing number of our subscribers are yachtsmen who own properties in Brightlingsea and who also have vessels moored in the harbour. With one broadband account they are able to surf the 'net both at home and on their yachts, connecting seamlessly at both locations, with the network automatically recognising them as subscribers wherever they are.
To find-out more about roaming connections contact Jamie Clary at Brightlingsea Wireless.
TEN NODES, THREE INTERNET GATEWAYS FOR SPEED, CAPACITY AND RESILIENCE
The Brightlingsea Wireless network now consists of ten mesh nodes servicing subscribers wirelessly across an area of more than 20 sq. Km, with three of those nodes feeding broadband capacity across the network. These three 'gateway' nodes not only balance demand across the network to smooth-out local peaks in demand and maintain high speeds but, in the event that a gateway 'drops-out', any nodes connecting to that gateway automatically seek-out the other gateways to maintain connectivity.

WIRELESS BROADBAND IN BRIGHTLINGSEA HARBOUR
Pioneering network extended using energy from the sun.
We are pleased to announce the introduction of our first wireless broadband node dedicated to users of Brightlingsea Harbour.
Developed with the full cooperation and support of the Brightlingsea Harbour Commissioners, the solar-powered node - dubbed 'Harbour Solar One' - allows visiting yachtsmen and those permanently moored to connect to the Internet at broadband speeds using their WiFi laptops and other devices.
To connect a wireless-enabled laptop to the network, the user simply selects the network name - 'Internet' - from a list which appears after 'searching' for available wireless networks. If the user is unknown to us and he or she attempts to visit a website, a 'login' page automatically appears, with a link to several free-of-charge websites and instructions how to purchase access, which they may do using their debit card, credit card or PayPal account.
Those connecting to the network can access a range of useful websites free-of-charge, including the Harbour Commissioners' website, the Met Office website, and sites operated by Brightlingsea Sailing Club. Free access to Google search and PayPal is also provided. Access to other websites, and services such as email, is available on a Pay-As-You-Go basis, with charges varying from £1 per hour to £15 per month.
Those who already use Brightlingsea Wireless as their broadband provider may access all services at the harbour - and elsewhere in Brightlingsea where coverage is provided - at no extra charge.
'Harbour Solar One' brings to ten the number of wireless broadband mesh nodes operated in Brightlingsea by Brightlingsea Wireless.
Brightlingsea Wireless's mesh network was launched in May 2003 and mesh networks are now a growth industry worldwide. A substantial mesh network servicing London's Square Mile was launched on 23 April 2007. Mesh networks can take the internet to areas where no wired connection is possible. However, the 'nodes' which assemble themselves to form the network still require power. For this reason solar power is something of a 'holy grail' among mesh network operators and while solar-powered projects have been established in remote places such as the Amazon jungle and less-remote but sunny Florida, USA, Brightlingsea Harbour's solar-powered node is believed to be unique in the UK.
